2022 IS THE YEAR OF….?

2022 mood and inspiration

Gosh, for a minute there we almost forgot our homes aren’t doing double duty as makeshift offices or classrooms – or in our case, a live-in construction site.

Christmas Eve 2020 is when we moved into our new home, and three days before this last Christmas we moved into our bedroom, and finally had a working, useable kitchen with an oven. Renovation fatigue is a real thing and 2021 was a serious grind for us  – especially that no kitchen part and trying to feed two kids throughout. Now we can finally live in our home.

These past few weeks have been a welcome reminder that our homes are also places for us to relax and have fun – thankfully surrounded by friends and family.

Throughout 2021, one of the most crucial lessons I’ve learned is that I can no longer burn the candle at both ends. No longer do I have the energy or desire to go full steam ahead with every idea, every opportunity, or every project. It not only leads to burnout, but a decrease in productivity and creativity.

Still, I’m a big believer in setting goals, to intentionally focus on my work projects and business objectives, and to live more purposefully outside of work. The start of a new year is certainly the most powerful time to do this.

As result, my theme to start the year is prioritisation. One could call it a softer approach to my goal setting needs. It’s about taking those larger goals, breaking them into small objectives and learning how to prioritise those on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. This allows for a lot more flexibility and the realisation that priorities will most likely change over the course of the year.

This makes the process not only about the finish line, but also about the incredible experiences that can happen throughout the year, both personally and professionally. Consider those New Year’s resolutions as checkpoints to ensure you are headed in the right direction.

A large part of that prioritisation for me includes having fun!

Now could consider that really easy, or even setting the bar pretty low, but I think with the last couple of years under our belt and a lot of time in hamster wheel mode, it’s time to embrace an energy shift.

For most of us, the reality is that the routine of life and grown-up concerns replaces our ability to be carefree and to break script on a regular basis. This is especially true for me when I’m in the zone with a goal in mind. Scheduled days and love of a routine don’t help either.

All it takes is a simple interruption in the flow of life to make us feel more alive. This goes a long way to becoming more present in our day-today life, so breaking the script is exactly what I need to do.
