It’s December and our schedules are packed! As evidenced by this note which has been sitting in drafts for some time. It can seem like there’s not enough time for the essentials, much less a little socialising with our favourite people – or rather too much socialising with end-of-year personal, work and school events taking over our lives.
It’s a reality for everyone, but I’ve found that instead of seeking ‘balance’ throughout it all, I’m instead leaning into gratitude.

This feeling of gratitude helps me to stop resisting the flow of life and rather embrace it. Instead of the idea of squeezing in a quick morning workout, rather my focus is how lucky am I to be able to run along the Cape Town mountain trails or along the ocean each morning. Rather than feeling like every catch up is an obligation, I am looking at it as a blessing. An opportunity to connect with friends and family.
As part of this process I am taking that feeling of being over whelmed and turning it into a feeling gratitude for the abundance in my life. Taking a moment to pause and reflect on the year that has been and the moment that we are in. The months already gone have included milestones and challenges that brought meaningful change and opportunities into my life, and now I’m ready to settle into the season to celebrate.

Christmas is around the corner – and who doesn’t love Christmas?! The holiday season can turn into a commercial consumer horror show, however over the last few years I have taken a very strong Less is More approach to gifting. I’m excited to shop intentionally for those on my list, focusing on fewer, better things, hoping that every choice will bring a little more joy and beauty to their life.
This holiday season is especially exciting for me, as we are travelling to Germany to experience the Christmas markets, ski fields and the first white Christmas for our girls. I am counting down the sleeps!
