While we love to walk into a room, move things around and add a cool new piece here or there, we understand that this doesn’t come naturally to everyone. So as we spend the month talk through some of our favourite design details, we want to be able to empower you with the skills to create a home you love.
To get you started, we’re talking through our favourite home styling essentials that we turn to time and time again to pull a space together. You can decide to choose just few items from this “starter pack”, or maybe your home is lacking in all of these layering basics. ORGANIC VESSELS
Our current ‘It Girl’, we simply cannot get enough of an oversized organic vessel. On one hand we say don’t just buy pieces to fill your home for the sake of it. On the other hand, we also believe there is no shame in buying a vessel just because you love it. They are there to simply add interest and a layer to your space. We find them versatile, textured and easy to style with.

CANDLESTICK HOLDERS
This one is for the crowds. I love the aesthetic of a candle stick holder. They are typically quite affordable, great styling pieces adding colour, texture or a sculptural effect to a setting, and they are quite versatile.
I personally find myself quite reluctant to actually use said candlestick holders, for fear that one of my children is going to knock it over and set the house on fire, or equally accidentally, one of my debauched friends is going to knock it over and set the house on fire. As such, they are purely decorative in my world.

BEAUTIFUL TRAYS

Trays are the perfect way to corral all loose things on a surface and make them look pulled together and intentional. And by that, I don’t mean your remote control and a few half read magazines (that gets put away). We are talking about an entrance console, a beside tables, a bathroom counter – places that may hold a few smaller decorative items that suddenly look so much better when placed on a tray.

DECORATIVE BOWLS
Another one from a stylists arsenal, we especially love these pieces with a pedestal foot, to add height and dimension to what could be an otherwise flat setting. Not solely reserved for usage as serving platters, these pieces can work as a sculptural piece in many settings. We love them on sideboards, dining tables, kitchen counters and on bookshelves.

The final piece of the styling puzzle, vases and objects are some of the easiest items you can bring to your home. Affordable and stylish options are everywhere, which makes them really easy to swap out seasonally, move around your home and layer into other vignettes. You can also do no wrong when your vase is filled with a bunch of fresh blooms or a strategic branch or two.
