June 2025. Design is in the Details.

The Home Studio June 2025

You’ll hear this often from designers: design is in the details. A take on Charles Eames famous quote “The details are not the details. They make the design”.

He is not wrong. Sometimes the details are obvious and other times they are subtle or hidden. We talk a lot about the details around here, some of which you get to see, and some of which seems so subtle or intrinsic to design that we wonder whether its just too “obvious” to make a point of.

Paying careful attention to such design nuances can range from something as simple as selecting the light switches and power outlets that fit my aesthetic and needs, through to the storage optimisation in my laundry, can make the biggest impact on how we use a space.

If you think about it like this, everything is an experience in your home – so why not make it the best that you can? Good design makes us feel better, live better. Flowers in your kitchen, for example, makes you feel happy. But if you’re anything like me, so does a good dimmer switch. Just being able to lower the lights at the end of the day and create a different evening mood is something so simple, yet so deeply satisfying.

This month we’re going to focus on those details. Those little certain somethings that you might not be able to instantly put your finger on. Those seemingly small design details that we love to use, and a few that we’re hanging onto and desperate to use, all of which work towards elevating the everyday. So often the ideas that we share here feel like design notes to myself, that just happen to be published on the internet.

A few things we have lined up for the month ahead include the kitchen shelfie, cupboard door styles, our favourite wood flooring finishes, wardrobe layout ideas, kids bedroom styling and fireplace surround details, to name a few.

Just as your favourite gold bracelet can make an outfit, the right design details can add the finishing touch that pulls a home together.

Thanks as always for following along

Xx
