MINI MAKEOVER INSPIRATION

Sometimes a mini makeover is akin to an Anne Hathaway movie. You know the one’s I’m talking about? Where there is the supposedly dorky girl wearing glasses and you didn’t realise how beautiful she was until she removed her glasses?!  It’s like that awkward space in your home that you didn’t realise was so beautiful and purposeful until someone pointed it out to you and you looked at it in a new light.

We’ve discussed tackling dead space before, in this post, and I don’t think we stop talking about the power of paint, so it’s no wonder we are in love with these two easy makeovers ideas!

In our first makeover we see how an awkward corner is turned into a stylish and eye-catching butlers pantry.

“An open floor plan is a blessing and a curse. On one hand, you have a lot of wiggle room with which to create your dream layout—but on the other hand, it’s tricky to create little pockets of designated space that both feel special and flow with the rest of the room That was Elizabeth Mahon’s problem: The founder of Washington, D.C–based kids’ store Three Littles wanted to carve out an area within her combined living-dining room that could serve as a bar station for when she has friends over. To do this, she turned to paint.”

The candy pink colour of the wall plays beautifully against the green backdrop coming from the bedroom. It also compliments the wood cabinet, and the space was cleverly finished with matching floating shelves to further define the space and give it a sense of purpose.

There is a strong possibility that many of you are current re-arranging and styling your shelves during this lockdown period. This second makeover is so simple and so eye-catching, we’re actually rather ashamed we haven’t tried this before ourselves. Colour is injected into a room by simply painting a few of the shelving nooks.

The colourful sections were selected according to the objects and books they were looking to highlight. This has a far greater impact over painting the bookshelf as a whole.
