We missed you!
It’s been a whirlwind few months and we’re so excited to be back in your inbox, although things are showing no signs of slowing down. It’s that time of year when the holidays feel like they’re already on our doorstep and plans are made weeks in advance.
We’ve been in our house for 3 years, and this Christmas will be our fourth in our ‘new house’, since we moved in Christmas Eve 2021. It was a whirlwind renovation to part of the house and we still moved into a building site.
As I’ve watched our house evolve over the years and as we’ve worked our away through different renovation phases, I always find myself walking through the house thinking about the areas I love the most and things that I would have done differently. This could be a hazard of the job, but at the same time every project is a learning curve.
With all the ‘hard work’ done, my attention has turned to furniture and softer, decorative finishes – and especially our outdoor living areas with summer on the doorstep. As I consider the changes I’d like to make, it makes me wonder: What makes a piece of furniture timeless?
What do the pieces I gravitate towards for my home have in common? There’s the obvious answer to start – the piece needs to be well made, with decent quality materials, so it can withstand our wear and tear year after year.
But for the more intangible elements of longevity – it makes sense that even the most hardworking of basics need a little edge to them. Or come with design choices that feel unexpected or special. Like the curved edges and float finish of our built-in sofa, or the spa like feeling underfoot of the quartz carpet running outdoors. Those are the details that I know I’ll love seeing today AND in ten years from now.
While we’re always game to experiment with an interior design trend or two, there’s something about curating a home filled with timeless elements that’s just so satisfying. After all, when you focus on weaving timeless home decor into your space, you can rest assured that your house will always appear stylish. No one will ever set foot into your home and immediately associate your choices with a specific year or era (or shop!).
Where possible, we always prefer to lean into pieces with longevity, over a short fix or cheap alternative for now. We understand there is a time and place for everything, and there thrill of the hunt associated with a good deal, however consumerism, waste and sustainability always plays on our minds.
This summer we’re planning on taking full advantage of the warmer month, by adding plenty of outdoor gatherings to our calendars. We’re here to help you make the most out of your home, by extending the styling possibilities outdoors, whether you whether you have an urban backyard, a small patio or a sprawling lawn.
Our focus is on creating your own private oasis for entertaining and relaxing with friends and family using a few simple tips, from durable dinnerware to comfortable conversation zones so you can linger long after the sun goes down.
And we’re doing all this while also channelling our favourite Italian Riviera meets Palm Springs Retro vibes. Are you ready for it? Let’s make it our most colourful summer yet!
