We all know that when it comes to designing a bedroom Sleep Quality is the most important factor to consider. As designers we have no problem translating that into finding the most comfortable and beautiful bed available.
Buying yourself a bed is also a sign that you’ve hit grown up status, and choosing the right bed frame is no small decision.
How do you know where to start? Do you want to create a tranquil, minimal space? A soft and warm, cocooning feeling? A luxurious, decadent vibe? Or are you going slightly monastic with a minimal and masculine setting?
As with every investment piece, you’ll need to consider a few key elements in the decision making process.

Firstly consider the size of your bedroom and choose a bed that fits the space proportionally. While you might wanted the biggest bed possible (we hear you), a king sized bed will over power a small room, taking up all of the bedroom space and leaving you with little to no space for bedside pedestals, or even to walk around the room.
Additionally consider the style of your room and choose a bed that compliments it. While there are no specific rules (it’s about what feels right for you), a good rule of thumb is to choose a bed that suits the style of your room.
We highly recommend keeping the bedroom minimal, but warm. You don’t need to have a lot of stuff, but rather focus on bringing in warmth through textiles and textures in a tonal and soothing manner.
When it comes to the finish of the bed itself, we try to focus on natural materials. If upholstered, whether in a soft linen or velvet wrapped, the best upholstered beds will have an instant texture play! We simply love bed fully upholstered in solid linen with a beautiful textural weave.
You will also want to consider the shape of the bed, as this can add some subtle (or not so subtle) interest to the room. Clean lines and subtle curves are always a win. The shape of the headboard brings all the interest, and can range from a subtle arch through to a sleek scallop.

While the profile of the bed frame maters just as much as the material, the curves can be represented in different way. If you opt for a rectangular shape, think about fluting or a channeled detail to make a rectangular shape feel more luxurious.
If you haven’t already created a Pinterest board for yourself, do it now! Being able to visualise how you want your bedroom to feel and by breaking the space down into individual elements, you will be able to understand what is truly inspiring your bedroom design.
