Outdoor showers are often found in beachside homes (no better way to keep sand out of the house), but we’re seeing this trend pop up in land locked locations too, and we couldn’t agree more that an outdoor shower is a great addition to your home and backyard.
Not only a practical addition (in our mind), it also gives your home a touch of luxury. How decadent does it feel to be showering outside, connecting with nature? Not only is there an extravagant spa like feeling to it, but showering outdoors also inspires childlike joy – as though you are playing in the rain.

There is nothing more satisfying than a post beach rinse, feeling the salty sweat of a great beach wash away. And for my slightly OCD tendencies, its even more satisfying if I know that all the beach sand remains outside. I literally can’t bear the gritty texture of sand in my ‘normal’ shower and bathroom.
Many people like to immerse themselves in a coastal lifestyle, regardless of location, and an outdoor shower brings back memories of showering by the beach after a day of sun and salt water.
If you have a swimming pool, washing away all that chlorine after a day in the pool is a good move.
We think its simple convenient to be able to rinse off outside after a big gardening sessions, if you want to wash your dog, or if its simply too hot and you just need to cool down from the heat.

And if you’ve got a hosepipe in your garden, you really are only a few steps away from having an outdoor shower of your own. Your outdoor shower can be as luxurious or simple as you’d like it to be. And if you need more convincing, think of an outdoor shower as enhancing your connection with nature
In our minds, outdoor showers don’t get much dreamer the this Mediterranean-style escape. We love the colour and effect of the soft blue tile. As though you are surrounded by beautiful blue seas.

Before going ahead with your outdoor shower, consider these few points.
Outdoor shower 101. Make sure you have plumbing in place. If you plan on joining your hot water system, try not to have your outdoor shower placed too far away. This way you won’t waste water waiting a long time for the hot water to arrive.
Drainage. The ideal situation is that your shower run off waters your garden or grass at the same time. However you are likely to need some kind of finished surface to direct the water in the right direction.
Location. While outdoor shower tpypially offer less privacy than their indoor counterparts, it doesn’t always have to be the case. A well-placed wall creates a privacy nook. Make sure you consider all the nightlines from neighbouring properties too, before choosing your shower location.
You’ll also want to make sure your shower is placed somewhere a little protected from wind, but also in a spot that gets lots of sun.
Accessories. While you might want to keep your outdoor shower as simple as possible, a few well placed hooks are essential for hanging towels and clothes.
