FEBRUARY MOOD | ENTERTAINING AT HOME

If there is a place that is truly the heart of the home, it is the kitchen. Since we all need to eat, it’s only natural that we all gravitate towards the kitchen, and inevitably it becomes a placed where families and friends come together and catch up.

I’ve always really enjoyed entertaining. Probably more the decor and table setting side than purely the food preparation and cooking side of things, but either way, having people over to share a meal and good conversation is always a highlight. As someone that moves houses on a semi-regular basis, I have also noticed how my love for cooking and entertaining is directly related to the kitchen at hand. A well laid out kitchen offering good counter space to prep and serve meals is a real joy. One where you’re struggling with appliances that don’t work or constanstly working around a poor layout is off-putting to say the least.

As I sat around a dinner table with friends last night, I was of course enjoying the company and home cooked meal. At the same time however, I was also taking in the layout of the kitchen (as I do) and how it worked so well within the home as a whole.

When it comes to your kitchen, creating the perfect space that compliments your entertaining style and adds to your home’s aesthetic is key. Some of that is to do with the overall look of your kitchen, but we are of the opinion that it is mostly related to the layout of the space. It doesn’t matter how gorgeous the marble countertop is or which top of the line appliances you may have, if the space doesn’t work together as a whole and layout is wrong for your home, you will never fully embrace the space.

These days kitchens need to serve double duty for both cooking and acting as an entertaining zone. In a lot of homes, guests are received and welcomed directly into the kitchen. And as we all know, no matter how small the space is, people somehow always end up hanging out in the kitchen during parties.

This month on the blog we are exploring the topic of home entertaining, with a specific focus on kitchens. Just because there may be fewer people sitting around the table at the moment, it doesn’t mean this important space should be neglected. So if you are int he early stages of planning your kitchen renovation, or simply need some renewed inspiration for entertaining at home, then be sure stay with us. Staying in is the new going out.

As always, we are delighted you are following along.
