Mhondoro Safari Lodge in Welgevroden Game Reserve, about 3 hours north of Johannesburg, is where we are escaping to today.
There are so many elements about the interiors of the lodge that I love, and that all work together. The pared back aesthetic and neutral colour palette creates a soothing and relaxing setting. The use of and mix of natural materials throughout all the spaces.
The contemporary furnishings that are understated but tastefully chosen, avoiding all of the safari lodge cliches one often comes across. Most importantly the overall look and layout are designed not only to keep your focus on the stunning surroundings, but even more so to accentuate them.
With further investigation I see that the Mhondoro was completely redesigned in 2015 after a devastating fire, by All-In Living, an interior design firm from The Netherlands, explaining the European design influence.
In case that wasn’t enough the main lodge offers a restaurant, wine cellar, spa, heated pool and gym. There is also an adventurous 65 meter walk through a tunnel leading to an underground waterhole hide. I’m ready to go! How about you?!
