It’s December and time to get the holiday season feels into full swing. Truth be told – I LOVE this time of year. The decorations, the festivities, the gatherings with friends – all of it.
Every year I try to come up with a new theme or design ideas for my Christmas decor. But as you know this can get expensive, and a little wasteful if your decor isn’t reusable. So bringing in my favourite saying of Less Is More, we’ve got six ideas on how to simplify your holiday decor.
1. Add long-lasting greenery to vases and vessels you already have
Any long-lasting greenery, especially pine as it is particularly festive, will work beautifully in a variety of glass vases or ceramic vessels. Cluster them together on a tray with a few white candles or other ornaments for a beautiful Christmas feature.
2. Use a neutral table backdrop and decorate with plants + greenery
Keeping your table settings minimal by using a neutral backdrop, and then decorate the table with plants and greenery. Cinnamon sticks, firethorn, pine, dried citrus or eucalyptus make wonderful and fragrant decor elements.
3. Create simple festive decor yourself
Dried citrus, pine cones and fresh pine branches make stunning garlands and wreaths, and are environmentally friendly decor. Using stationery from home is also a simply and easy way to make your own Christmas decorations.
4. Brown or white paper, string and a little greenery make for striking gift wrapping
5. Decorate your everyday home decor items
Dress up coat hooks, benches, crockery, canisters, plants or any other everyday pieces in your home with a lights, stockings, baubles and other festive bits and bobs, to spread the cheer throughout your home.
6. Consider a real tree and keep it bare
Support one of the local charities by purchasing a real pine tree and place it in a natural fibre basket. Keep it bare or dress it with lights on for Christmas minimalism at its best.
