THS PROJECT | GREY + WHITE BEDROOM REVEAL

THS Projects Grey White Bedroom Reveal

On Monday, in this post, we started talking about a makeover project we recently finished for our client, starting with one of the bedrooms. To recap – with this home being a rental we are bound by the overall design of the room, but to warm up and soften the space the client wanted to create a cosy and serene bedroom in a grey and white colour scheme.

BEFORE

This shows where we started and while the room is certainly not offensive, the dark floors do dictate a lot of options for the design, giving the room a modern, masculine edge and making it feel just a little cold.

Also, this particular room has very high ceilings with recessed downlighting, so we couldn’t use hanging lighting for added interest

CONCEPT

The headboard, which is a defining piece in the room, is quite classical, so the goal was to bring other elements into the space to balance the look, so that the final look wasn’t too modern or too classical.

Our post yesterday on the perfect pairing of bedside tables and lamps shows that we know the struggle is real when it comes to choosing the two furniture items. When we originally sourced pieces for the room,  we opted for a far more modern bedside pedestal – one with a metal base – but upon reflection we realised the piece was in fact just too modern for the room and quite honestly looked a little flimsy and ‘light’ next to the imposing bed and headboard.

The very simple but more solid style of the proposed bedside table worked better alongside the large headboard. Instead we added modernity through the proposed lighting and artwork.

The wallpaper is Hakone by Patricia Braune from Robin Sprong, and clearly the show stealer in this space. We love the soft pattern and texture it brings to the room. The falling pattern completely plays with the height of the room and creates that cosy, inviting feeling our client was after.

The Grayson headboard is from Block & Chisel. The artwork is by Kim van Vuuren of Studio Kim. We obsessed over her selection of art prints and choosing just the right one was quite the challenge. We needed something to compliment the colours of the room, provide a modern contrast to the classical elements and most importantly to work with the wallpaper. In the end we selected Pink Dance from her 50 Forms collection.

The bedside pedestal is from Pine Options, and for all Cape Town locals this place is such a win for good quality, affordable pieces – especially anything wood, white or grey. A definite go to source. The London table lamp is from Weylandts.

Scatter cushions are from Biggie Best, and the Moroccan Pom Pom blanket is sold through us! We’ve got a selection of stunning blankets which we are either using for projects or offering for sale. More of that to come on our Instagram page soon.
