This post is for our lovers of heavy metal. And not the music kind. We are talking about burnished metallics. Rich and lustrous metals that have aged and oxidised, giving each piece a unique finish and beautiful patina.
For many people, the use of metals in their home is too bold a choice. However, aged metals allow you to enjoy the beauty of the natural material in a more pared back and restrained way, dialing down the ultra shiny finish one often expects when introducing coppers and golds. Burnished metals have their own natural pattern, full of textural interest and personality.
In a kitchen some of our favourite applications of burnished metals are on an extractor hood, as a splashback, on kick plates or as a cladding on a select section of cabinetry. This pink kitchen with its dramatic backsplash and metallic extractor cover is simply stunning!
Burnished metals work equally well in a bathroom whether you use the natural material or a tile or wallpaper to mimic the finish. Burnished metals have the added bonus of creating fascinating light reflections which create a striking depth and interest in a room.
Wherever you choose to feature it, by applying aged metal with restraint and in a considered way, combining it with other natural materials, such as, marble, glass or wood, you create balanced effect with a real WOW factor!
Note the metal detailing on this custom joinery, which continues to elevate the already beautifully crafted carpentry work.
