When it comes to first impressions, consider your home’s exterior as an additional opportunity to help you express your personal style – and it can also add value to your property.
Our designer Claire explored a variety of colour schemes and combinations that work well for house exteriors, and pulled together six different styles that can be used with confidence.
Pale grey and white are a match made in heaven. We especially love this combination for coastal homes as it gives an instant beachy, holiday feel, however the scheme works well across all styles of traditional and contemporary homes. The white trims are inviting and soft on the eye.
Dramatic all dark exteriors are becoming more and more popular and look especially good on textured walls, such as, exposed brick or wooden panels. You could say this style is inspired by our increasing need for a more tactile environment.
Elements of natural wood and greenery provides a break in the all dark exterior and give the home a contemporary but classic look.
Grey, black and white is a classic and timeless palette that one will most likely never tire of. The black accents provide visual anchors whilst the pale grey and white are soft and welcoming. Greenery is essential to make this palette really pop.
Combinations of contrasting neutrals, such as, soft taupes, beiges and off whites work beautifully together in any style of home and on any surface.
Black or dark charcoal trim paired with a slightly lighter shade for the walls gives you a moody look without the full dramatic effect of an all dark or black exterior.
Using bold hits of colour on architectural details, such as, front doors, postboxes or pot plants is a great way to express your personal style. Certain colour combinations just work exceptionally well together, such as, turquoise and coral, navy and coral or charcoal and pink.
